Sex, Video Games and Protecting Children

Written by Jon on January 30, 2006 – 11:12 pm

Rosckstar LogoI think the move today from the L.A. District Attorney to sue Rock Star Games over their controversial Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for hidden pornography should be cheered. To often in our society, people overlook the most outrageous and offensive content that gets in front of children. I think the company should pay for the deception, simply to protect our kids from future acts like this.

Businesses have an obligation to truthfully disclose the content of their products - whether in the food we eat or the entertainment we consume,” Delgadillo told the Associated Press.

Steeler Baby

Written by Jon on January 29, 2006 – 3:45 pm

Steeler Baby, powering the team to the Super BowlI found this funny little guy at SteelerBaby.com, check it out, it has some funny stuff. This must be a sign that the Steeler’s fans are crazy - or - prophetic. I think that some on should send this little guy or girl to Shawn Alexander to jinx him.

I’ve already said it in another post, the Steelers will win the Super Bowl.

Also, for the women that like the cute little guy, read my post on the Ladies Super Bowl Cheat Sheet.

Bruce Lee

Written by Jon on January 29, 2006 – 3:43 pm

Bruse Lee and NBA starAs I’m working on the master plan for the direction of this Blog, and to become a “pro-jock”, I decided to put the wife and the kid down for a nap - and will try to achieve “total consciousness” (Caddy Shack) - by watching Bruce Lee’s “Enter the Dragon”

“Arguably the most entertaining, colorful and spectacular kung-fu movie ever made.” Danny Perry

Bruce Lee kicks ass, mostly because of the noise that comes out of his mouth as he pummels his foes. I’ll try to spell the best sound, “wwwwhhhhoooaaahhhh!!!” The photo to the left is when Bruce Lee kicked Karem Abdul Jabar’s ass in “Game of Death”. Obviously the best china man versus freak of nature fight of all time.

Written by Jon on January 28, 2006 – 11:13 pm

The Super Bowl - We men know the players, the game plan, the stats, and of course we know who is going to win.

Ladies - don’t care much about the game, but would like to impress at the party. All married guys want their friends to know that their wife knows the game.

So here are some talking points for the ladies.

  • The Steelers (white team) won 3 playoff road games to get to the Super Bowl.

Bush, Federal Government and Dikes

Written by Jon on January 28, 2006 – 10:44 am

French White FlagI’ve been doing some reading, and I’m just not sure why “we the people” are responsible for the failures of New Orleans. I am tired of seeing the media and the left blame Bush and the Federal government for the failure to rebuild New Orleans. It is not the Federal Governments fault that generations of people built a city under dikes. Insurance companies don’t insure in flood plains, that’s not dumb. And at what point does the Bush ask the Air Force to attack a storm or any other “act of God”?

I’d point my finger at an inept State government (letting a high school teacher run a government?), and certainly the leadership in New Orleans, who couldn’t even run a hotdog stand.

Mayor C. Ray Nagin - “I sincerely apologize to the people I offended in this city and throughout the country,” he said. “My comments in regard to race, religion, the uptown locale and our government were completely inappropriate.” - (NO KIDDING!!)

But, to tell you the truth, the white flag should be lifted over the city, because it was the French (the Masters of the Universe) who built the city.

Another fabulous French victory!

The New World - the worst movie I have ever seen.

Written by Scott on January 27, 2006 – 2:32 pm

The New WorldI have seen a lot of bad movies in my time; I have been tricked by plenty of previews. Some of the bad movies I have seen include Battlefield Earth, Mission to Mars and Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse. However, this weekend I witnessed the most painful movie experience yet. The New World seemed like it would be good, it stared Colin Farrell and Christian Bale and was about Jamestown, the first English colony in the Americas. I expected it to make white people look dirty and ill-willed toward nature, I got that part right. What I didn’t expect was there being more lame voiceovers than character dialogue. Now, being a fan of history, I thought this movie wouldn’t be half-bad; I was terribly wrong. The best way to describe The New World is to compare it to watching a 2 hour 13 minute cologne commercial. It was like a bad art film, that you wanted to watch not for the entertainment but for the challenge. I feel that I should have gotten a t-shirt afterwards for my accomplishment.

Google takes on China

Written by Jon on January 27, 2006 – 12:14 am

Google in China Google takes on China Communist China is a police state that controls their citizens subjects. But lets not turn on Google so fast. I’ve read a bunch about how “evil” Google’s decision to let the Chinese government censor it’s content, and how Google has let down the Chinese people, and I’m tired of it. I believe Google is the most powerful leading edge company of the 21st century, led by young, savvy and smart people. They have a big fish to fry, and its China. Yes, Google will make money now, but just wait and see how much money they make when they help bring down Communism. Remember it was money and technology that brought down the iron curtain. It will happen again, Google’s entrance into China is a victory for freedom and liberty. The vast amounts of knowledge available to the Chinese people now, even if its censored, is a time bomb for the communist party.

Every one know Google motto is “Do No Evil”, so I find it amusing when I see lines like this.

Perhaps in the 21st century, Google now believes the Wall Street film villain Gordon Gekko was right and “greed is good.” It is hard to come up with any other explanation given Google’s flexible definition of “evil.” - Editor and Publisher

The first glimmer of hope for China, found in the open markets of Google AdWords. I went to the Chinese Google and typed in “Chinese blogs” and found this. You should give it a try, it isn’t often you get to see the start of a revolution,

Pixar purchased by Disney

Written by Jon on January 25, 2006 – 8:27 pm

Pixar Animation StudiosWe need to note the big Walt Disney Co. news, acquiring Pixar Animation Studios for some $7.4 billion dollars. This is a much bigger deal than just two media giants merging, this actually effects the fabric of life in America, and here’s why:

Steve Jobs, the genius behind Apple, the CEO of Pixar is now the largest single shareholder in Disney. He will bring his expertise in technology to the media giant. This will affect both the movies that Disney makes and its ABC Network, bring more rich media to all aspects of the company and to America. Soon you may wirelessly see a Pixar movie on your iPod, while getting your box scores on ESPN.

“Steve Jobs could be the 21st century Walt Disney, helping the media giant Disney founded to regain its lost lead in animated films.” Hinduston Times

Here’s the corporate merger press release about the merger if your curious about the facts.

Self-Accountability

Written by Scott on January 25, 2006 – 7:48 pm

Berlin WallTo start my blog right, I have decided to lay down the basic political beliefs that I hold. While there are many aspects that I combine to form my political stance, I feel that it would be better for me to lay the grounding of my beliefs one blog at a time. You, as the reader, may agree with some, you may disagree with others, I don’t care, so long as you know where I am coming from when I formulate my stance for or against certain issues. In order to know why you are arguing something, you need to know what your basic values are. With that being said, one of the most basic beliefs a person can hold is their stance on self-accountability. It is the difference between communism and democracy. Either you believe that man can take care of himself or man is nothing more than a wild animal that must be controlled by the government. There are many similarities between this debate and the debate over man being good or evil. But the bottom line is, do you believe man is civilized, self-sufficient and responsibly for himself? Or do you believe that man is an animal that must be controlled by government in order to achieve civic stability? Furthermore, do you believe that man should not be responsible for himself?

If you believe that man should not be held accountable, than you have two options: one, the uncompassionate choice, man must live in the wild with other animals. Two, the compassionate choice, man must be controlled by the government. The weak must be supported by the government because they have no responsibility for themselves. If you break the law, you will not be punished but rather rehabilitated, because without accountability you have no conscience. You have no rights, because without accountability you are owned and must be taken care of by the government. Ironically, in order for the system to work, if you are the strong, you support the government, because there is no one else to do so, therefore the strong are penalized by being strong and able.

If you believe that man is accountable for himself, as John Locke did, then you believe that governments only purpose is to serve man. Man has rights over his life, liberty and property. If a man wishes to achieve greatness, it is within his reach. If a man breaks the law, he must be penalized. With self-accountability the weak stay weak and the strong prosper, however, the decision is up to the man.

I choose self-accountability, I believe that you make your own bed, you build your own house and you reap what you sow. You have no responsibility to others and no one has responsibility to you. Youre responsibility lies with you and yours (your family or someone who is a dependent of you). True, I believe that there are circumstances in which a person cannot take care of himself and should be helped, however the situation is rare. If you are able to work, than you are responsible for yourself. I also believe that we are not entitled to anything but freedom and natural rights, services are mearly benifits that are provided by a community based on their level of prosperity. Please do not misinterpret my view of entitlement as absolutes, it has a grey zone. While I may lie far to the self-accountability side I do believe there are exceptions. The government should provide basic services such as a military and public schooling. However, while I do believe in providing public schooling to the community, I also believe that you are not entitled to an education, you have to work for it.

Liberate the term “Christian” from politics

Written by Jeremy on January 25, 2006 – 6:58 pm

There is no such thing as a “Christian Nation.” True Christianity can’t be delegated from a body of government. It is an internal transformation of the spirit. A government could be founded on “Christian” values but that is up for interpretation. Is justice a Christian value, or is forgiveness? And which would the government appeal to? The politics of Jesus looked very different than that of the Moral Majority, or liberal Christian ethics.

“The kingdom (empire) of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree…” – Matt 13:31-32

The word “kingdom” in Greek can also be translated as “empire”. With that in mind, this parable can be seen as a comparison between Christianity and the Roman Empire which had imperialized Jesus’ people (the Jews). In this parable, Jesus is the mustard seed. His message of love and humility spreads, and pretty soon it (Christianity) is the most powerful “empire” – not the Roman Empire. We have no records of Jesus disobeying Roman law, nor did he ever try to change the laws of the land, or do away with a corrupt system of taxation. Jesus changed people, not laws. It’s the ultimate in grass roots politics. Christianity is not liberal or conservative, it’s personal.
